Pilates is a form of body conditioning exercise. Developed by the late Joseph Pilates, it focuses attention on core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and provide support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and of postural alignment, and strengthen the deep torso and abdominal muscles. Many people use Pilates practice to develop and maintain their bodies, the beauty of Pilates being that because of its low impact nature and wide repertoire of exercises it can be appropriately tailored to each individual. So whether you are new to exercise, rehabilitating from injury, about to or have recently given birth, you are young, old, or a fighting fit athlete- Pilates can improve your body and help maintain it for a healthy future.

"I struggled to find a Pilates instructor after I moved away from Glasgow, until I found Ruth... She is a great instructor, always cheery and motivating. A hobby of mine is to go climbing, which I do on a weekly basis. Since training with Ruth I have felt more mobile, my strength and range of motion has improved as well as my flexibility- so I am even better at tackling those climbing walls!"
Sophie, 30, IT Consultant.

As a trained dancer myself, Pilates is so important to me- keeping me strong, supple and injury free. Many sports and activity enthusiasts chose to do Pilates to support their sporting goals, for example Pilates is popular with people who play golf (as it improves core stability and control), football (a non-impact alternative training, gentle on the knees and encourages flexibility) and also people who play musical instruments (as it develops breathing control and encourages good posture).

I am a STOTT PILATES trained instructor and have been practicing Pilates for over 8 years. I have also completed the STOTT Pilates Pre-Natal and Post-Natal training workshops. STOTT Pilates is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method  developed by Ballet dancer Moira Stott along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals. The STOTT PILATES method of exercise includes modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and effective methods available. I teach mat based Pilates, meaning the majority of exercise are done lying or sitting on a mat and using light equipment.

Based in the South East of London, I work from the ChrisCross personal training centre, 10mins walk from the Cutty Sark (DLR), Greenwich. Please contact me for further details of location and availability.
